For the last few years, I've been using a program called Skype (rhymes with pipe). It lets you talk with any other Skype user for free using a computer, mic, and speakers/headphones. It has also allowed you to call any other phone in the world for a fee (a couple cents/min depending on country). This has been great for international calls (free if both people are near a internet-enabled computer).
That's all changing.
According to this, ALL calls originating and ending in the US and Canada are free. At least until the end of this year. This means people who don't want to use their cell phone minutes during peak hours can call any phone (including cell phones) in the US or Canada, anytime, for free as long as they are near a computer. I mean, I don't know anyone like that *cough*MJ*cough*, but maybe you do.
No catches, no gimmicks.
Welcome to the future. Commence rejoicing.

eh? i don't get it. why do you have to be near a computer? will it pick up your cell phone signal or sth and reroute your calls so it's free? you're gonna have to set this up for me.
whoops i just read first paragraph of your post and i think you're saying you have to make the call through the computer headphones/mic thing. ignore my comment above.
YES, Skype is free! I got the email too. That's fantastic news.
